Fibromyalgia Awareness Day is May 12th, which is just a few days away, so in case you were looking for ways to raise awareness on our special day, we thought we'd share a few ideas about how you could raise awareness and celebrate! Check out our ideas below, and please share your plans and ideas with us in the comments below!

  1. Email your relevant politicians about the need for more Fibromyalgia research, how health-care roll-backs have affected you or someone you know who has a chronic illness like Fibromyalgia, or about anything else that affects you and your health. The "Town Hall" app on Facebook is a great way to quickly send your representatives a message, or, you can use these sites:
    1. https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials
    2. https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
    3. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members
  2. If your City/State hasn't officially proclaimed May 12th as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, start a petition or campaign to have it officially recognized!
  3. Dye your hair/paint your nails/wear a purple ribbon/wear purple and bring up the fact that you did it to raise Fibromyalgia awareness whenever anyone asks you about it
  4. Share relevant posts/articles/facts/stats/memes online
  5. Share your story with your friends/family/coworkers - talk openly about Fibromyalgia and how it has affected you as a person/caretaker/mother/father/sister/brother/etc
  6. Participate in community walks/events/webinars near you! (Check online- social sites, google- you'd be surprised by what's going on!)
  7. Host a walks/events/webinars for people near you and post about it online
  8. write an article and submit it to a Fibromyalgia support group or a site like themighty.com
  9. Ask a local shop for permission to put a poster in the corner of a store window highlighting Fibromyalgia Awareness (includes an arts and crafts bonus!), or to have pamphlets/handouts/small sign by the cash register for the day
  10. Buy a product whose funds supports a Fibromyalgia Association, or donate (and don't forget your tax receipt!)

We hope you enjoyed these suggestions, and remember, Fibromyalgia Awareness Day is just a catalyst to raise awareness, and you can you work to bring awareness year-round!

Stay tuned for more from us to continue celebrating Fibromyalgia Awareness Week!

Gentle hugs,
